🎮 [Pokémon LeafGreen Playthrough #01] A Journey with Bulbasaur! Defeating Brock in Seconds with “Double Kick”!? 【Riri Ititama / VTuber】

2026年10月29日

Today marks the start of a brand-new series! I’m kicking off my playthrough diary for Pokémon LeafGreen🌿

Since Izumi is handling FireRed, I’m going to take on a massive adventure through the Kanto region right here in LeafGreen!

And out of pure respect for Venusaur gracing the game’s box art, my starter partner is definitely set!🌱

Title: Pokémon LeafGreen

Publisher / Developer: Nintendo / GAME FREAK

Genre: RPG

Platform: Game Boy Advance (SP / DS) / Nintendo Switch

📖 Synopsis

A young girl (me!) living in Pallet Town is entrusted with her very first Pokémon by Professor Oak. The partner I chose is the super cute Bulbasaur with that iconic seed on its back!

My childhood friend and rival, Izumi, also sets off on his journey alongside Charmander. And so, our long quest to complete the Pokédex officially begins! First stop: dashing through Viridian Forest to reach Pewter City, where the first Gym Leader, Brock, awaits!

🌿 Destined Partners! My Rival Is… Izumi!?

Without a second thought, my partner is Bulbasaur! It’s on the box cover of LeafGreen, so it’s definitely the star of the show✨

And I named my rival “Izumi"! Since I picked Bulbasaur, he got Charmander. He’s also using Charmander in FireRed, so this makes for a perfect rival dynamic (lol).

Getting the Town Map from Daisy was such a lifesaver for our adventure—I was so happy~!

💪 Brock Isn’t Shirtless!? & Mankey’s “Double Kick" Rampage!

Time to challenge the Pewter Gym! …or so I thought, but I was so shocked to see that Brock wasn’t shirtless! I somehow had this old image in my head that he was always shirtless, but in this remake, he’s fully clothed (lol).

As for the battle itself, Mankey (Kaoru), who I caught along the way, totally went wild with “Double Kick"! I honestly didn’t expect to crush Brock that fast. Mankey, you are truly the ultimate martial artist…💪✨

👟 A Mother’s Kindness! Smooth Traveling with Running Shoes

After the battle, as I headed onto Route 3, an aide from the lab delivered a pair of “Running Shoes" sent by Mom! Now I can zoom through the long roads ahead.

Being able to sprint across the big map just by holding the B button is beyond convenient…! Thanks a bunch, Mom~!😭💜

💡 Useful Tips (Strategy Guide)!

Here are some key tips I learned from playing through the early game!

  • Make sure to catch Mankey!: If you don’t want to struggle against Brock, catching a Mankey that learns the Fighting-type move “Double Kick" is highly recommended!
  • Level up patiently!: Unlike modern Pokémon games, experience points aren’t shared across the whole team, making training each Pokémon one by one surprisingly tough. Good old-fashioned grinding is key!
  • Watch out for version-exclusive encounter rates!: When hunting for specific Pokémon on routes, encountering remake-exclusive differences is all part of the retro gaming charm✨

🎙️ Riri’s Summary Impressions 💜

Playing Pokémon after so long is just insanely fun~!✨

Getting used to modern convenience features can make grinding feel a bit tedious at times, but the feeling of “I’m adventuring and raising them myself!" is so rewarding. And seriously, the total wipeout with Mankey’s Double Kick felt ridiculously satisfying (lol).

For now, I’m going to unlock those old memories and charge straight ahead with my unique partners (like Gloria the Bulbasaur and the rest of the crew) until we conquer Kanto!🔥

Now that we’ve defeated Brock and earned our very first Boulder Badge, we’re heading over to “Route 3"!

I wonder what kind of new friends we’ll meet next? I’m so excited~!♪
