Play Diary: Today Is the Day Valentinus Was Executed! — If You Don’t Break Every Flag but Your True Love’s, You’re Instantly Called to Heaven!? A Life-or-Death Valentine Starting with Three Chocolates♪ | Riri Ititama / Vtuber

2026年11月1日

This time, I played a short romance visual novel that’s perfect for Valentine’s Day: Today Is the Day Valentinus Was Executed!

With “executed" in the title, I thought it might be serious, but it turned out to be an outrageously life-or-death Valentine’s Day where “being too popular can kill you." This time, I aimed to clear every route, and raced through it in a stream of about two hours ✨

📘 Game Info

Title: Today Is the Day Valentinus Was Executed!
Maker: Ryokucha 28 (緑茶弐捌號)
Release year: February 14, 2025
Genre: Short romance visual novel
Platform: PC (a free Steam game)

🌟 Synopsis

On Valentine’s Day, the protagonist, Akira, receives chocolates from several girls and is at the height of happiness… or so he thinks, until he is hit by a truck on his way home and dies.

Then the Valentine’s angel, Chocoriel, appears. The chance she gives him is to redo the day and turn down every chocolate except his true love’s.

A childhood friend, an admired senior, a mysterious girl… Break the flags of the heroines closing in on you, and seize just one destiny! Fail, and it’s off to the afterlife 😇

💖 If You Don’t Turn Down Every Non-True-Love Chocolate, You Die!? The Surprising Truth About “Flag-Breaking"

This game’s rule is simple and brutal. If you end up holding two or more chocolates, the power of love overflows its capacity and the protagonist dies.

So the basic strategy is to use save and load to test, one by one, whose chocolate to accept and whose to turn down. At first, I got a bad ending by accepting two, and messed up relationships with the wrong way of turning someone down. That trial and error itself was part of the fun.

And the ways of turning people down are so kind, too. With little white lies like “I’m on a sugar restriction" or “the timing is just bad right now," he gets through without hurting anyone’s feelings. That really stood out to me. If he had rejected them outright, my heart as a viewer would have broken too 😭

🌙 Too Full of Personality! Introducing All Four Heroines♪

Since I was at it, I collected every route! Here are the girls’ personalities, just as I felt them while playing ♪

  • Traits: A classic tsundere childhood friend! She’s not great at cooking, but the way she pours her heart into making chocolate for the protagonist is so endearing.
  • Route impression: Even though they’re always trading barbs, she’s the one who understands the protagonist best, and that reassurance is wonderful. That “the childhood friend" distance between them was the best ✨
  • Traits: A library committee member, a neat senior with long black hair. Including her slightly hard-to-approach air, her face and voice were a critical hit for my tastes 💘
  • Route impression: I couldn’t stop grinning, and I saved her route for last. It wasn’t just a straightforward romance ending, either. The slightly bittersweet, special ending really stayed with me.
  • Traits: At first, she’s a strange occult junior who talks about “the guidance of the stars" and “the will of the cosmos." But actually, she’s bad at communicating and was just putting on a persona: a “fake" chunibyo!
  • Route impression: Her shy face when she drops the act, and her confession that she had been forcing herself to perform, were so heart-melting that I fell for her all at once.
  • Traits: The Valentine’s angel who guides the protagonist’s redo. She has a strong conviction that mint is the symbol of angels.
  • Route impression: She’s the central figure in the unexpected twist waiting after you break every flag. The battle over mint chocolate might have been the most exciting part of the stream!?

🍮 Hilarious Stream Mishaps and Lovely Details! 💥

There were plenty of personal highlights and mishaps during play (lol)!

Another stream got mixed in!?
During play, I suddenly noticed a different drawing stream was playing at the same time! I hurriedly stopped it. Just a small streaming mishap (lol).

The famous rejection line: “I’m on a sugar restriction!"
This line popped out when turning down Senpai’s chocolate. It’s strangely realistic, but also kind enough not to hurt her, and I couldn’t help thinking, “Nice one!"

Total agreement in the choc-mint debate
The angel’s chocolate is mint-flavored. When the protagonist firmly refused it, I was shouting in my heart, “I get it!!" That toothpaste-like coolness, you know… (in a small voice).

Admiring the Live2D in the bonus room
After clearing the game, in the bonus room I enjoyed watching the Live2D expressions change with each click, and checking each character’s chocolate. Mint, a colorful one like stars, truffles… even the small differences were fun to compare ♪

💬 Riri’s Thoughts

Overall, it was a fairly short story, but the pacing was great and I enjoyed it so much!

With “executed" in the title, I expected a serious setup, but the gag level was insanely high! The protagonist getting hit by a truck, the meta comments at the choice screens… it was full of moments to retort at.

It’s quick to play, but each character’s charm is drawn out properly, so collecting the multiple endings never felt like a chore. For a free game, that level of satisfaction is amazing!

According to the author, a next work is also being made.

If it comes out, I definitely want to play it again! 🎮✨
