Dragon Quest I HD-2D Play Diary #03: The Magic Key and the Five Crests – Riri Ititama / Vtuber

Welcome to part 3 of my Dragon Quest I HD-2D play diary✨
The key events have finally begun! In the old games, the key was disposable – it broke after a single use – so I never imagined such a rich story development would be waiting for me😲
I’d had a vague feeling something was up ever since the Thief’s Key, but this kind of deep dive into the world is a truly delightful surprise💜

🌟Story
To save a knight stricken by the dark miasma, the hero asked for help from the wizard who researches the Magic Key.
In exchange for the wizard trying to treat the knight with healing spells, she was asked to go and check on his partner, the dwarf he is building the Magic Key with.
The hero accepted the request and set foot in the cave where the dwarves gather――🐾
🗝️ Seeking the Magic Key – Off to the Dwarf Cave! ⭐

And so, I headed into the mine tunnels where the dwarves are said to live.
The place was crawling with monsters, but I fought my way through and reached the settlement on the third basement floor!
By the way, from then on, using Zoom mysteriously dropped me straight onto the third floor (lol). It’s incredibly convenient, so I’m not complaining at all🙌
The dwarf I was looking for was found safe – but shockingly, the miasma had left him on the brink of death💦
To save him, I would need the fairies’ elixir, so my next stop was the fairies🧚♀️
🧚 The Human-Hating Fairies, and Princess Lora’s Unbreakable Spirit 👑
I arrived at the fairies’ hidden village, but as expected, other races like elves and fairies keep their guard up around humans.
The village chief was extremely wary of me at first, too😠 It seems the chief is the only one who knows the clue to the “Lamplight Syrup" needed to make the elixir.
Here, a scene with Princess Lora is woven in, and it’s truly brutal…!

The Dragonlord keeps showing her visions of her parents being attacked, over and over again👿
And still her heart doesn’t break – isn’t Princess Lora’s mental strength incredible!?
Then Rubiss, along with an oracle telling me to save the nearly-breaking princess, gave me the recipe for the Lamplight Syrup✨
A shining nice assist from Rubiss!
👻 [Breaking News] A Huge Blunder at Domdora 💦
I took a little detour to Domdora to test my strength.

A showdown with the Grim Knight⚔️
I was thinking there’s no way I can beat it yet… when the huge blunder came to light!
I had forgotten to turn off the “Easy" difficulty I’d set while leveling up!!😭
Thanks to that, I was never sent to church, and although it took a while, I ended up safely getting my hands on the top-class armour, Erdrick’s Armour🛡️
Yeah, all I can do is laugh at this point (lol).
💜 The Magic Key Completed, and the Tsundere Chief ✨
When I quickly gathered the syrup ingredients and returned, the fairy village was under attack by monsters this time👾
The enemy was an Armoured Knight, but compared to the Grim Knight earlier, it felt much weaker.
I drove it off safely, and had them make enough syrup for two people.
And then, the chief who had been on maximum alert warmed right up to me🥰
Thanks to the syrup, both the dwarf and Princess Lora’s attendant knight recovered, and I headed to the wizard.
At last, the wizard and the dwarf simply handed me the Magic Key they had built together, just like that🗝️

Apparently, the two of them aren’t interested in the finished product itself – they seem fully intent on mass-producing single-use keys and making a fortune💰
I can’t say I dislike that merchant spirit of theirs (lol).
🌟 The “Crests" Passed Down 🛡️
When I visited the fairy village again, the Glowing Seed I’d obtained earlier became the Life Crest!

It seems a journey to collect the crests begins here😲
It’s a development that wasn’t in the old games – I never imagined an episode about creating II’s crests would be added at the point of I.
II started right off with collecting crests, after all.
The crests created here will surely connect right into the HD-2D version of II✨
I’m really looking forward to this deep dive!
💬Riri’s Impressions
The Grim Knight scene – as a streamer, I really messed that one up, and I’m reflecting on it💦
I think lowering the difficulty so you don’t die while leveling is fine, but enjoying the thrill of nearly wiping out is part of the fun of streaming, you know.
Forgetting to turn it back… I’ll be really careful from next time🙇♀️
Well, that aside.
I safely got Erdrick’s Armour, so my armour is complete now✨
And above all, the deep dive of II’s crest-making being added to the story is so exciting🔥 I can’t take my eyes off what happens next!
Next time, I’ll head to the Swamp Cave and rescue Princess Lora🐉
The crest collecting is on my mind too, but rescuing Princess Lora comes first!
I hope the princess is safe…!
